Au Pair Program Extensions
All au pairs whose extention begins on or after January 1, 2008 are eligible to earn a completion bonus of up to $500.
The Au Pair USA Extension Program allows host families and au pairs to extend their match beyond their first year for an additional 6, 9, or 12 months. Host families benefit from a more stable childcare environment while au pairs benefit from having more time to experience life in the United States.
Host families save money by paying reduced program fees, making the Au Pair Extension program one of the lowest-cost childcare options available.
Au pairs receive the same weekly stipend as they did during their first year along with the same pro-rated vacation days and educational allowance. During a 9 or 12 month extension, au pairs must complete 6 credit hours of accredited post secondary classes. During a 6 month extension, au pairs must complete 3 credit hours of accredited post secondary classes.

Au Pair Extension Application Deadlines
The extension application must be received at least 40 days before the start of the extension period. The U.S. Department of State charges a processing fee of $246 which Au Pair USA will pay upon receipt of the extension application. This amount will be added to the extending host family's invoice. Extensions must be approved by the U.S. Department of State and failure to document completion of the educational requirements will result in an application’s denial. We recommend that au pairs take responsibility for the submission of the extension application since it is their visa status that is at risk if the deadline is missed.
